PAGASA Forecast: New storm (code name "Santi") may make landfall on Saturday

PAGASA Forecast: New storm (code name "Santi") may make landfall on Saturday. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said (Tuesday) that new storm heading for the Philippines may make landfall on Saturday.

Pagasa head Prisco Nilo said the cyclone, to be code-named "Santi" once it enters Philippine territory, will make itself felt as early Friday night.

"Ito ay maaring tatama sa kalupaan mga bandang Saturday evening ... Nasa dagat pa ito, malayo pa sa lupa, malaki ang posibilidad nito na lalakas bago tumama ng kalupaan (It may make landfall Saturday evening. But it is still at sea and far from land. The chances are, it will gain strength before making landfall)," Nilo said in an interview on dzXL radio.

Citing data they have gathered so far, Nilo said the cyclone is due to enter Philippine territory Thursday evening, and bring rains and winds Friday evening.

But he admitted there is little chance the cyclone will go the way of "Ramil" (Lupit) that skipped the country.

In a separate interview, Pagasa forecaster Elvie Enriquez said the cyclone will likely affect Eastern Visayas.

"Kung magpapatuloy, sa Kabisayaan ang unang maapektuhan, Eastern Visayas, Samar, Leyte (Given its present heading, it will likely affect first Eastern Visayas, including Samar and Leyte)," she said in an interview on dzBB radio.

Enriquez also said that after "Santi," at least four more cyclones are expected to enter Philippine territory.

"Dalawa sa Nobyembre, isa na lang ngayon, isa sa Disyembre, so apat pa, base sa nakaraan (Based on weather patterns in the past years, we expect two cyclones to enter Philippine territory in November, one more in October, and one in December)," she said.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), in its 6 a.m. report, said the cyclone had been upgraded into a tropical storm and is moving toward Guam.

It said the cyclone was moving west-northwest at 17 mph (27.35 kph) with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (64.37 kph).

President Barack Obama: Quotes about news media

President Barack Obama: Quotes about news media
. Quotes by President Barack Obama about the media:

"The media encourages some of the outliers in behavior because, let's face it, the easiest way to get on television right now is to be really rude." _ Sept. 18

"The media loves to have a conversation about race. I mean, this is catnip to the media." _ Sept. 18

"We also remember and celebrate the journalism that Walter (Cronkite) practiced _ a standard of honesty and integrity and responsibility. It's a standard that's a little bit harder to find today." (Sept. 9)

"It's fine to have a debate back and forth _ he said, she said. Except when somebody else is just not even telling remotely the truth. Then (reporters) should say in your reports, `Oh, and by the way, that's just not true.' But that doesn't happen often enough." (Aug. 20)

"There's been a lot of attention paid to some of the town hall meetings that are going on around the country, especially when tempers flare. TV loves a ruckus. What you haven't seen on TV, and what makes me proud, are the many constructive meetings going on all over the country." _ Aug. 14

"I've got one television station that is entirely devoted to attacking my administration." _ June 16, describing Fox News.

"I know that in Washington sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day cable chatter, and be distracted by the petty and the trivial, and everybody is keeping score: Are they up, are they down? One day I'm a genius; one day I'm a bum." (March 25)

"For the broad public at least, I am who the media say I am. I say what they say I say. I become who they say I've become." _ Obama as a U.S. senator in his 2006 book, "The Audacity of Hope."

"All the sound and fury, magnified through the television and the Internet, coarsens the public culture. It makes tempers flare, helps breed distrust. And whether we politicians like to admit it or not, the constant vitriol can wear on the spirit." _ Obama, also in "The Audacity of Hope."

Final Countdown of PACQUIAO VERSUS COTTO

Final Countdown of PACQUIAO VERSUS COTTO. Manny Pacquio and Miguel Cotto, two of boxing's most popular and crowd-pleasing fighters, will meet at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Nov. 14 (HBO PPV), Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com on Monday.

Watch the boxing's biggest fight of the fall: a showdown between pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and welterweight titleholder Miguel Cotto.

Cotto (34-1, 27 KOs), a titleholder at 147 pounds, had agreed to drop below the welterweight limit for the fight. Pacquiao, the 140-pound junior welterweight champion, wanted him to come all the way down to 143 pounds. Cotto refused. Ultimately, they agreed on a 145-pound maximum weight.

Pacquiao, 30, the national hero of the Philippines, scored a sensational knockout of Ricky Hatton to win the junior welterweight title on May 2 at the MGM Grand. The victory gave Pacquiao a world championship in a record-tying sixth weight division.

Cotto, 28, of Puerto Rico, is coming off a bloody split decision victory in a title defense against Joshua Clottey on June 13 at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Babies love Beyonce's "Single Ladies" music video on YouTube

Babies love Beyonce's "Single Ladies" music video on YouTube. Children loves the music of Beyonce's "Single Ladies". More babies dances to the music of Beyonce.Beyonce's "Single Ladies" (Put a Ring on It) video is one of the best videos of all time by Kanye West in MTV Video Music Awards.

The diaper babies dancing continue to multiply on YouTube after releasing the singer's female-independence anthem.

Cory, 13 month old boy has two-minute video of dancing in YouTube. Another baby loves Beyonce's video, named Ava, has been watched more than a million times.

"I don't know what's so catchy about the song," writes Jenny Isenman on iVillage in a post called "Diaper Divas," "but let's be honest: it's addictive. And it's really addictive with the playdate set." Isenman's 4-year-old daughter makes her scour the radio for it.

But experts in music and child development aren't surprised that "Single Ladies" won Best Song at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards or that an army of little kids have mastered BeyoncÉ's saucy, ring-on-it hand flip.

"The song is very Teletubbies," says Tony-nominated musician Kenny Mellman. "If you listen to it, there is very little music. It's all drum and BeyoncÉ's voice." Kara Shall, communications director of Baby Loves Disco, agrees. "Young children love songs with good rhythm and repetition, and 'Single Ladies' certainly has both," says Shall, whose company once a month in 21 cities turns bars into child-proof discos. (She also notes that her own children, ages 5 and 2, are big fans of the BeyoncÉ song.)

Like some rogue Baby Einstein offering, the black-and-white "Single Ladies" video provides visual and aural stimulation well suited for the under-2 crowd. Babies love high-contrast colors, steady beats and smiling women's faces. "Single Ladies" has all of these things. It's almost as if BeyoncÉ designed it for children.

JaQuel Knight, who choreographed the "Single Ladies" video along with Frank Gatson Jr., says the "Single Ladies" team always had children in mind. "We often went back to our childhood days, when our parents would ask us to dance for all the relatives at the family cookout," he says. "They weren't the best steps on the planet, but the feeling, emotion and passion of the

About the "Single Babies" phenomenon.

"What putting babies in front of this video does is deprive them of hands-on creative play, which is the foundation of learning," says Dr. Susan Linn, director of the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood and author of The Case for Make Believe. "Babies aren't asking to be put in front of these videos. They're not congregating in front of the watercooler to talk about BeyoncÉ. They don't get anything from the video that they couldn't gain from parents who play music around the house."

The American Academy of Pediatricians recommends no screen time for children under age 2, whether that's on TV or a computer.

But parents find it hard to argue with a three-minute diversion that both they and their children can enjoy dancing along to. Knight says he is thrilled about babies' reaction to the video. "It is absolutely heartwarming and most definitely places a smile on my face," he says, "to see our piece of art touching those at such a young age, even those who can't walk."

Maui Taylor & Brian Revilla on rumored sex video and nude photos on web

Maui Taylor & Brian Revilla on rumored sex video and nude photos on web. Several nude photos of someone alleged celebrity Maui Taylor (real name Maureen Anne Rodriguez Taylor) was leaked on the internet.

The photos, didn’t exactly come as a surprise to many given that Taylor has been photographed in the nude as a model and ‘bold’ actress.

Some of the photos were taken while the subject was asleep, while others show her preening for the camera. One photo even had the subject engaging in oral sex.

Although Taylor had denied the alleged pictures were hers, she even commented on the girl’s tattooed and collagen-enhanced breasts as “different” from hers, the pictures have become even more popular of late when rumors came out that Bryan Revilla, son of Sen. Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla was the one who took the pictures.

A ‘sex video’ between the two is now among the hottest topics among the web.

Taylor and the young Revilla had a brief relationship from years back. In 2006, Taylor admitted to having made a “private sex video” with Revilla in the radio program “Good Times with DJ Mo.” She was quoted to have said that she was confident the video won't reach the public because it's not in Bryan's “character” to wash dirty linen in public.

Taylor reiterated her denial of the photos to writer Dolly Anne Carvajal saying, “I know for sure that Bryan never took nude pics of me.” Taylor was embroiled in a legal brouhaha in Cebu concerning a supposedly “scandalous performance”.

Mar Roxas and Korina Sanchez wedding reception

Mar Roxas and Korina Sanchez wedding reception. The original venue for their grand wedding reception of engaged couple Sen. Mar Roxas and Korina Sanchez watch a show at the Araneta Coliseum. [Watch Mar-Korina on People's Wedding (video)]

(Updated for reception)

There will be no grand reception after the ceremony. The senator from Capiz and the veteran broadcast anchor decided to donate the money to 6 charity organizations providing assistance to victims of typhoons “Ondoy” and “Pepeng.”

After the ceremony, the couple is set to meet with their guests in the courtyard where food and refreshments will be served.

2 days after Sanchez and Roxas announced that they will cancel their wedding reception and donate the funds to needy typhoon victims instead.

The reception's stage design alone would have been a sight to behold, with large cut-out props of delicate fans and carved wooden arches suspended from the ceiling, plus Capiz accents on the sides. The rest of the coliseum would have included buffet stations and dinner tables for guests.

Mike Miñana, who is in charge of production and physical set-ups, said there would have been a large TV screen onstage to project live scenes from the Sto. Domingo Church, where the couple plans to wed.

The fans and arches could have been moved up and out of sight, much like in a stage play, depending on whether the TV screen was being used. This would have been followed by a brief musical interlude and Filipino-themed dinner for expected 7,500 to 10,000 guests, comfortably seated inside the coliseum, which ordinarily houses up to 22,000 people.

This would have signalled the start of 2-hour reception ceremonies like cake-cutting and bouquet-throwing on a special revolving stage. He said there would have also been a giant cake presented to the couple from one of the wedding guests. This would have been the grand follow-up to what Sanchez and Roxas described as "The People's Wedding."

Contemporary Filipiniana

A computerized sketch of the Fan-themed set design that Korina Sanchez chose for their wedding reception at the Araneta Coliseum. The design includes elevated stairs and movable props.

Gino Gonzales, one of the country's top production designers, said the fan-themed design was chosen by Sanchez, whom he described as "very hands-on."

"Down to the last detail, she is very particular about what she wants. Her sensibility is 'Filipiniana baroque.' Mar is very minimalist. So we have to strike a balance and we'd like to think we did so. But you know, in things like these, it's the bride who calls the shots," he said.

Following the entire affair's "Contemporary Filipiniana" theme, the wedding and reception would have included accents like sampaguita and rosal flowers, capiz lanterns from Quiapo, mirrors from Apalit in Pampanga, and light-colored ribbons that rippled across the stage.

The wooden arches that would have been used in Araneta Coliseum were inspired by The Tecson House in San Miguel, Bulacan.

"It's like 'Bahay na Bato.' Very 'Old Philippines'," Gonzales said. "We would have used cut-outs to look like lanterns. We are using a lot of motifs from Philippine embroidery, from barong, piña, and mats."

However, none of the wedding planners could confirm the total cost of the Araneta Coliseum reception. "Just imagine feeding 10,000 people nalang," Gonzales said.

He is in charge of souveniers, stages, set design, coordinating flower arrangements, coordinating with the ABS-CBN Network for the reception program, and figuring out table settings with CIBO's Chef Margarita Fores.

"It would have been beautiful, but too ostentatious for the times. It would have been appropriate for a couple of their stature, except it might have come out as insensitive [in light of the recent tragedy brought on by tropical storm Ondoy]," Gonzales said.

When Sanchez called up the wedding planning team on Monday to tell them the reception was cancelled, the team agreed with the decision.

'Scaled down'

Another option shown to the couple was a capiz-themed stage design, which would have been the focal point of the reception. The floor plan is shown here.

What would have been an opulent reception has now been "trimmed down" to a simple and intimate dinner at one of the homes of the couple's family.

Only wedding entourage and immediate family members, numbering at around 200 people, will be invited to the "no-frills" dinner. The spread will include Filipino fare like "caldereta."

Marichelle Ligon, the couple's wedding coordinator, said they are still trying to give Roxas and Sanchez the wedding reception that they wanted - only on a much smaller scale and at a much lower cost. "Parang pampalubag-loob sa kanila. Pero, if not, we'll go with Plan B. We have back-up plans ready," she said.

Ligon said the couple were a little sad to let go of their dream wedding reception.

"You know naman weddings, it supposedly happens once in your lifetime. You can say nanghihinayang sila, pero tao naman inuuna nila. Public servant sila. Mar's in the business of politics and Korina is a broadcaster who does public service. It wasn't that hard for them," she said.

Gonzales said Sanchez sounded "in control" when she called to tell him the reception was cancelled. "You know, Korina has really given this wedding away already. So she was prepared," he said.

The team is now busy finalizing plans this week, so that they can polish these plans further next week. The couple is set to get married on October 27.

"There is pressure, given the fact there were a lot of considerations. We have to keep the public perception in mind," Gonzales said. "Basically, [we're] simplifying everything and trying to keep the integrity of the event without compromising too much."

Something borrowed, something new

The high-profile pair announced their engagement on entertainment show 'Wowowee' in early April. The couple is pictured here a few days after their announcement.

So far, the team said, nothing major has been purchased for the reception because most items are borrowed from friends and family.

The reception's "white-and-wood" theme will include wooden candelabras bought from Pampanga, glass vases, rosal and sampaguita flowers, candles, venetian mirrors, and Araneta-Roxas heirloom pieces like crystals and silver.

Ligon and Gonzales said it is a challenge to source wedding items now because most of the stocks, like Baguio City flowers, were damaged or flooded following storm 'Pepeng.' Flowers are being sourced from parts of Laguna and Davao.

The wedding itself will still include essential features like giant TV screens outside Sto. Domingo Church for those who want to watch the ceremony from outside. Miñana said there are seats reserved within the church for the masses, but on a "first come, first served" basis.

The Philippine Madrigal Singers and the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra will reportedly render "solemn but joyous" songs for free.

The ceremony will be followed by a short meet-and-greet with the newlyweds at the church courtyard. There will be simple cocktails and finger food for about 2,500 people who are expected to grace the event.

Stephen Gately autopsy result

Stephen Gately autopsy result. In Madrid, Boyzone star Stephen Gately, whose body was found in a house on the Spanish resort island of Mallorca, died of natural causes, according to autopsy results released Tuesday.

A post-mortem showed Gately, 33, an Irishman, died as a result of a pulmonary edema, or fluid in the lungs, the Balearic Islands Superior Justice Tribunal said in a statement.

"The signer of the British group Boyzone died from natural causes, owing to an 'acute pulmonary edema'," the court statement said.

"The autopsy carried out this morning showed there were no signs of violence to the body," it said, adding that Gately's remains could now be flown home.

Gately was found dead on Saturday in a house near Port d'Andratx on the western tip of Mallorca. The singer had gone to Mallorca with his partner Andrew Cowles. The two were wed in a civil union in 2006.

The court said tissue samples from the singer's body would be sent to a laboratory in Barcelona for further analysis, and that unless information contradicting the autopsy result emerged, the investigation would be closed.

The court said Cowles gave a statement at the court in the Mallorca capital of Palma on Tuesday. Other witnesses were also expected to give statements.

Spanish news reports said the two had been out drinking and that the singer had later choked on his own vomit.

Spanish police said they were called to the scene on Saturday afternoon.

The house, situated on an exclusive tree-lined seafront street, overlooks a rocky bay reputed to have some of the best sunset views on Spain's favorite holiday island.

The four other members of the band flew to Mallorca following news of the death.

Boyzone was one of the biggest acts to come out of Ireland in the 1990s. The group was a major hitmaker in Britain and Ireland in the 1990s and announced a comeback tour at the end of last year.

Gately also released several solo singles and appeared in stage musicals. He made headlines when he announced he was gay a decade ago.

News of his death shocked the British and Irish pop world.

Elton John said Sunday that he and his partner, David Furnish, were "stunned by this tragedy."

Dancing inmates of Cebu, dance "Nobody" Korean hit song

Dancing inmates of Cebu, dance "Nobody" Korean hit song. The famous "dancing inmates" of Cebu once again gained popularity after dancing to “Nobody," a hit song sung by the all-girl Korean pop group Wonder Girls.

A report on QTV’s Balitanghali showed the inmates from the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) dancing to the song before Russian tourists.

The report said the tourists enjoyed the performance that some of them vowed to tell others of what they had seen.

The detainees perform every last Saturday of the month to almost 600 visitors for free.

The inmates had also danced to “Jai Ho," the theme song of the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire. The performance even included a role playing of a scene in the movie.

CPDRC’s 1,500 inmates made waves in 2007 after their performance of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller" was posted on video sharing site YouTube.

As of October 14, the "Thriller" (original upload) in YouTube already has more than 34 million views and has been chosen as a favorite video 86,861 times.

Byron Garcia, CPDRC’s provincial security consultant, earlier said the dance routines started after he noticed that the inmates were bored with the usual morning exercise.

Garcia then sought the help of a choreographer and adapted Jackson ’s iconic moves into a four-minute routine.

Know Kim Bum on Maja's Salvador side

Know Kim Bum on Maja's Salvador side. Three days after Korean actor Kim Bum (Boys Over Flowers) went back to Seoul after a two-day shoot for the RC Cola TV commercial with her, Maja Salvador can’t stop thinking about him. Not that they have become an item during their brief encounter even if they do play lovers in the commercial.

“Pareho kami natuwa sa isa’t-isa,” admitted Maja. “Even if he spoke very little English, he was fun to talk to, may sense pa rin siya kausap. I had to talk to him slowly at hindi kelangan ‘yung hindi malalalim na words ang gamitin.”

Maja’s call time was 5 a.m. and that of Kim Bum was after lunch.

“When he arrived on set, he would ask me, ‘Are you tired?’ Sabi ko, ‘Yes.’ Then he would say, ‘But you’re still pretty.’ Marunong mambola. Hehehehe! And then he would smile; kakaiba ang smile niya, nakakawala ng pagod.”

Recently aired on ABS-CBN, Boys Over Flowers is the Korean version of Meteor Garden, the popular Chinovela starring the F4 guys. Kim Bum and the other BOF guys are Korea’s answer to Taiwan’s F4.

“Hindi niya akalain na ganoon ang fans dito,” said Maja. “In Korea daw kasi, hindi ganoon kainit ang pagtanggap. Here daw, he could feel the fans’ love and support. He asked me if I would go to Seoul if there’s a chance and I teased him, ‘Only if you invite me’.”

Maja said that on the set, Kim Bum was playful.

“One time, it was drizzling and he heard people saying, ‘O, payong, payong!’ Ginagaya-gaya niya, ‘Payong, payong!’ and then asked me what payong means. I said, ‘Umbrella’ and he nodded. Korean food was served on the set pero hindi siya choosy. Kung ano ang pagkain, kinakain niya. Simple lang siya; walang kaartehan sa katawan.”

Kim Bum, 20, will soon be seen in Dream, another Koreanovela to be aired also on ABS-CBN. Maja is starring (with Coco Martin, Jason Abalos and Nikki Gil) in the ABS-CBN’s Nagsimula sa Puso, a TV remake of the 1990 movie directed by Mel Chionglo and starring Jay Ilagan, Hilda Koronel, Armida Siguion-Reyna and Richard Gomez.

Typhoon "Pepeng" made landfall in the province of Cagayan. In Manila Philippines, in the province of Cagayan was in "chaos" due to violent winds and tremendous rains that hit the province after Typhoon Pepeng (international codename Parma) made landfall around 3 p.m. Saturday.

According to Aileen Torres, administrator of the Philippine National Red Cross in Cagayan, that 140 volunteers have sought shelter after reporting that several areas were "very hard to penetrate."

"Everything was in chaos. Branches all over area scattered in several places. Power supply was cut off," Torres told ANC as she described the situation in the province.

Chito Castro, head of the Office of Civil Defense in Cagayan Valley, said the typhoon was blowing "very, very strong winds" over the province.

Castro said several trees were being uprooted while ABS-CBN correspondent Jorge Cariño reported that several roofs have been torn off houses. Communication lines have also been cut off, reports added.

Torres said water have overwhelmed two bridges in Tuao town and Tuguegarao City and have been rendered impassable.

She said they were able to evacuate at least 50 families from four villages in Tuao and Sta. Ana towns before Pepeng made landfall in the province.

Based on the satellite image released by weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 3 p.m., Pepeng's circulation was already covering Cagayan Valley.

Other Cagayan Valley provinces, including Isabela, Batanes, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya have also been experiencing Pepeng's wrath.

The weather bureau had earlier expected Pepeng to make landfall early Saturday evening over Cagayan, but its speed suddenly accelerated around 1:00 p.m.

Nathaniel Cruz, PAGASA' spokesman, said they expect Pepeng to make landfall at 3 p.m., four hours ahead of the weather bureau's earlier prediction.

The weather bureau said in its 1:30 p.m. report that the typhoon significantly accelerated from 17 kilometers per hour to 24 kph. It moved west northwest with maximum sustained winds of 175 kph and gusts of up to 210 kph.

The typhoon was expected to cross northern Luzon overnight and move 260 kilometers west of Basco Batanes or 270 kilometers northwest of Laoag City by Sunday morning.

PAGASA hoisted Signal No. 3 over Cagayan, Batanes Group of Island, Babuyan and Calayan islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Mountain Province, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga and northern part of Isalea.

Signal No. 2 was raised over the rest of Isabela, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet and La Union while the provinces of Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan were under Signal No. 1.

Rains over Metro Manila

Cruz said the concentration of rainfall from Pepeng will pour over the western side of northern and central Luzon, including Metro Manila.

He said more rains were expected to fall starting 8 p.m. Saturday and the downpour will continue until Monday night.

Cruz reiterated that the amount of rainfall of Pepeng will be lesser compared to that of dumped by tropical storm Ondoy (international codename Ketsana), which flooded a large part of Metro Manila on Saturday.

Susan Espinueva, head of PAGASA's hydrometeorological services, said only areas in Rizal, Laguna and Marikina are in danger of experiencing higher levels of floodwaters because of the spilling Laguna de Bay.

Espinueva, meanwhile, reported that they are not expecting floods in Isabela and Aurora provinces because the water level in Pantabangan Dam, which throws water to Cagayan River, has already normalized.

She said the release of waters from Angat, Ambuclao and Magat dams continued as of 10 a.m., but calmed fears of flashfloods in surrounding areas.

Preemptive evacuation

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Friday placed the country under a state of calamity as she ordered preemptive evacuations in areas expected to be hit by the typhoon.

The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) reported Saturday morning that thousdands of people living in critical areas in La Union, Cagayan, Isabela, Batanes, Quirino provinces have been evacuated.

More than 20,000 families or more than 100,000 people have also been evacuated in Bicol and a few hundred more were brought to evacuation centers in the Calabarzon area.

The government has also announced the allotment of a P100 million calamity fund for the continuing relief efforts for the victims of tropical storm Ondoy, which entered the country last week and left nearly 300 people dead and 42 more missing.

PAGASA head Frisco Nilo said coastal areas on the eastern seaboard of northern Luzon, including Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon and Catanduanes should still watch out for storm surge, which may be triggered by Pepeng’s strong winds.
