What followed was one of the most jaw-dropping auditions of the series so far… but for all the right reasons! Greg sung Nessun Dorma in a pitch so high it’d make most men’s nose bleed! But it was strangely fantastic – it was fun, it was uplifting, and above all it was good!
As Greg hit the top, top note, and the windows in the venue threatened to shatter, the audience jumped to their feet and gave the young Welshman a resounding ovation.
Like everyone else in the room Simon was unable to contain the huge smile that swept across his face.
“That shouldn’t have just happened!” he said gesturing to the standing ovation.
Piers announced that it was one of the most extraordinary things he had ever heard, before admitting: “I thought you did it brilliantly… it was a great act.”
Simon was still temporarily unsure: “Well it was like a dog meowing, it just shouldn’t do that,” but the more he thought about it, the more he liked it: “Would I like a dog to meow? I guess I would, yeah!”
And so it was time to vote on Greg.
“I’m going to say yes,” confirmed Piers.
Amanda was also a yes.
“I’m going to say,” begun Simon: “I haven’t got a bloody clue… but you are through!”
And with that Britain’s Got Talent’s only male soprano had made it through to the next round.
